Our Story

Subway Watersports was founded in 2001 by PADI OWSI Patrick Zingg (1969 - 2012). Patrick Zingg originally from Switzerland, started his PADI career as Divemaster in 1998, in order to achieve his goal of traveling extensively in Central America. He was very focused on gaining the knowledge he needed in order to open his own Dive Center on the beautiful Island of Roatan.

He worked for many years in several different Dive Centers on the Island, as both a dive instructor and a general manager before finally realizing his dream. Patrick opened Turquoise Divers in 2001 with other business partner. As an owner of a 5 Star IDC Dive Resort, Patrick was able to use his influence and encouragement to create a platform for students to GoPro.

After Patrick’s tragedy, the resort and the dive shop were bought by the actual owners, and they have continued to endorse the original philosophy that Patrick grew around the dive shop: make Turquoise Divers a reference in diving customer service, quality of training and exceed customers’ expectations. Due to sustained efforts, Turquoise Divers has become a PADI 5-Star Resort & Instructor Development Center and Roatan’s only National Geographic Award winner dive center, providing high quality services to divers from around the globe, who enjoy diving in small groups of no more than 8 divers per guide on our private dive sites.

Also, Turquoise Divers has become a one in its class dive shop, given its strong emphasis in coral reef restoration, a program that use aware divers to contribute grow and outplant corals from a coral nursery into the natural coral reef, as a way to maintain/recover the health of the local reefs of the North – East shore of the island.

All of these achievements are possible to the continued effort that Patrick Zingg started and the actual owners continued, taking advantage of the unique position that allow divers to find on a short boat ride away amazing pristine dive sites with drop offs, canyons, swim throughs and the Caribbean’s biggest variety of corals and sponges. And to top things off, the shop is located away from the hustle and bustle of Roatan’s busy West End so you’ll enjoy untouched reef with no competition for dive sites and mooring lines.
